April Lockhart
April Lockhart, born in 1995 on July 4th July, began taking guitar and piano lessons at age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. April Lockhart composed her first track, Different at the age twelve years old. When April was 14 years old, she dedicated long hours developing song ideas and perfecting her music. Then she began to take excursions to write with her father, who lived in NY as well as LA. April started to incorporate various other topics relevant to the Take my Hand song for some friends, such as peer-pressure problems and suicides among teenagers. Lockhart, a popular lifestyle influencer as well as having partnerships with clean-cut beauty brands Ilia, has built her own following. The disability she has is part of her personality, but it's not all of the of the picture. Lockhart's profile on Instagram doesn't conceal her handicap, but it doesn't just focus on the issue. What message is it sending? It is important to remember that we all have numerous faces. Our identities are varied and we are much beyond our body. Lockhart, via video message sent from her Nashville home, says I don't want my physical appearance to define my character. I'm more than my physical self. The issue doesn't affect my everyday life. I go about doing my job as normal and have come up with my own ways to adapt. It's an integral aspect of my existence, so it is important that we talk about it. The journey of self-acceptance that Lockhart has taken will be one that lasts a lifetime, but she is an inspiration for this purpose. She has gone through phases where she felt uncomfortable in dressing in certain styles that displayed her arms. Now she wears whatever outfit she likes and uploads photos on her Facebook page with pride. One of the keys to self-love for her is that it's not an end place to go. However, I believe that's the case common to everyone regardless of what they are struggling with. It is important to have people that know and appreciate the way you feel. They'll be the ones to ask your: What are you think about?
